A Patty of Beef, Topped with Cheese

Adding cheese to hamburgers became popular in the late-1920s, mid-1930s. It’s been an ongoing obsession of mine since I was 16.

There’s nothing like a delicious cheeseburger.

Now, obviously I wasn’t alive in the 1920s, nor created the ever loved cheeseburger… I do however consider myself a bit of a cheeseburger connoisseur, just to be clear.

There are several competing claims as to who created the first cheeseburger.

The first reported claim to the cheeseburger “invention” was Lionel Sternberger in 1926 at the age of 16. (Can you say soul mates!) When he was working as a fry cook at his father’s Pasadena, California sandwich shop called “The Rite Spot”, he “experimentally dropped a slab of American cheese on a sizzling hamburger” and voila… sparked a cosmic reaction for my fixation.

Several others lay claim to this delicatable concoction, but 16 year old Lionel is who I’m sticking with! 🙂

I’ve eaten plenty of cheeseburgers in my day and I’ve decided to write a book about em! All about the Capital Region of New York State’s finest and simplest and yummy and delicious burgers. (Excuse me as I wipe my slobber.)
